Student of the Week
Maya




Congratulations!  to the students that completed their Reading Log for the month of September. The reading reward they voted on was Stuff Animal Day.  We are currently working on the month of October.  Children need to read for 20 minutes for 21 or more days per month to earn the reading reward.



Reading/Language Arts
This week we have been focusing on long and short vowel sounds using the pattern CVC,
CVCe, and CVVC. (C-consonant, V-vowel) 
We will continue collecting information about the hippopotamus and Aldabra tortoise.  Our informative/explanatory text will include:  physical characteristics, foods they eat, how they live (in groups or alone), their habitat, and other interesting facts.  
Grammar: review of of proper nouns and verbs

Math
We will be using models to represent 3-digit numbers and using place value to describe the values of digits in numbers to 1,000.

Social Studies

Next week we will begin Unit 1, Where We Live.  We will identify ways people can work together in the classroom and community by obeying rules and laws.
