I would like to thank the parents that attended the Second Grade Curriculum Night.  I enjoyed seeing everyone.  If you were unable to attend a green folder has been sent home with information.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Reading Log
Reading 20 minutes everyday is a homework assignment.  Please have your child write in the title of the book and the time they started and ended.  Only one line should be filled out for each day.  If your child has read more than one book, please have them write down their favorite book.

Reminder: Fill the Bucket
Fill the Bucket Assembly will be on Thursday, September 27th.  An order form for books relating to this topic has been sent home.  If you wish to order any of the books, please return the order form by Tuesday, September 12th.

Class Book Order
A class book order for Scholastic Books is in the green folder from Curriculum Night. If you wish to order books, please send in your orders by Friday, September 22nd.

MAP - Testing
The children will be taking the Map Test for reading and math next week, Monday - Thursday.  

Reading/Language Arts
We will be reading the book What If Everybody Did That, by Colleen M. Madden.  Our focus will be on cause and effect.  
Vocabulary Words:  responsible, consequence, actions, cause and effect
Grammar:  nouns

Math
We have added counting back to our math strategies.  Next week children will use bar models to represent a variety of addition and subtraction situations.  The strategy will be act it out. 

Science
We will continue with our unit on nutrition.  Children will learn how King Henry the Egg taught Little "D" about the Meat Group.  We will learn what foods belong to this group and how the protein from these foods help build muscles.
