2nd Grade Curriculum Night -
Parents are invited to our 2nd Grade Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 7th beginning at 6:30.  I am looking forward to sharing the many things your child will learn throughout the year.

School Assembly
The Literacy Committee has scheduled a school presentation entitled "Bucket Filling" on September 27th.  We will learn how to become a Bucket Filler.  A Bucket Filler is someone that helps someone without being asked and someone that gives compliments and spreads good feelings.  We would like to create a school where everyone is kind, responsible, and respectful of others.

Reading/Language Arts
We have begun some Daily Five Activities.  Children have been selecting good fit books and practicing reading to self.  We have also begun writing in our journals.
Next Week:  We will be assessing children to find their instructional levels in reading.
Children will learn several spelling sort activities for their words, from the "Words Their Way" program.

Math
We have discussed several math strategies:  doubles, doubles plus one, counting on, making ten, and drawing pictures.
Next Week:  Children will use these strategies to find the sum of 3 addends.
We will use the part-part-whole model to show how addition and subtraction facts are related.

Science
We learned that "Little D" was not feeling well because he was not eating healthy.  His diet consisted of soda, chips, cookies, cake, and candy.
Next Week:  Sir Milkford, from the Royal Family, will teach "Little D" about foods from the Milk Group and that these foods help build strong bones and teeth.
