Great Job!
We had the opportunity to watch first grade present their show Hello Around the World, Wednesday.  They did an awesome job!

Reminder
Please return any of your child's spring pictures that you do not wish to keep and the payment envelope if you wish to keep any of the pictures.  THANK YOU!

Reading/Language Arts
This week we finished reading and discussing FireFlies, by Julie Brinckloe.  Next week we will be reading Where Do Polar Bears Live?  by Sarah L. Thomason.  In this nonfiction story we will learn why the Arctic is the perfect place for polar bears to live.  We will also learn that the Earth is getting warmer and the ice is melting and what this means for the polar bears.  The children will work on comparing these two texts.
Vocabulary:  shelter, predator, prey, enemy
Together we will gather information about the polar bear for an animal report.  This will prepare students to write their own animal report that they will begin next week.

Math
We will continue with measuring lengths with centimeters and meters.  Children will find the difference in lengths of two objects.  There will be a chapter test, Lengths in Metric Units.

Science
We have been discussing earthquakes and volcanoes and how they change the Earth's surface.  Children will learn that the Earth's surface is made up of different solid materials and that rocks are made up of minerals and soil is made of small bits of rock mixed with matter that was once living.
