Reading Logs -
Six Flags reading logs are due February 21st.
Children that complete their class Reading Logs for January and February will earn a ticket to a Cougar game. They will also receive a Cougars drawstring bag, a free hot dog, a drink and an Oberweis ice cream cone.
Children will continue to earn a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut for January, February, and March for completed Reading Logs.
Reading/Language Arts
We will be reading the story Biblioburro, a true story from Colombia by Jeanette Winter. In this story Luis and his burrows, travel far and wide to bring treasured books to children in the remote villages of rural Colombia. We will also read My Librarian is a Camel, by Margriet Ruurs. This is a story about mobile libraries around the world. Books are brought to people in remote areas by buses, boats, elephants, donkeys, trains and wheelburrows.
Vocabulary Words: access, biblioteca (library), burro, cuento (story/tale), que' bueno
Focus: students will ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text
Math
We will be finishing subtraction with and without regrouping. Next we will be starting time and money. Children will be adding quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies.
Science
We will be identifying the parts of plants; stem, roots, leaves, flowers, and their structural characteristics. The children will compare the characteristics of different plants.
