We've said good-bye to our butterflies today. They are flying about enjoying the warm weather.  We have learned a lot from our observations over the past few weeks.

Reading/Language Arts

After learning about owls this week, the children were very excited to be able to dissect an owl pellet.  They shared their findings with the class.

Next week, we will read Two Bad Ants, by Chris Van Allsburg. This fiction story is about two ants who are overwhelmed by treasure and decide not to return home with the others, their adventures are filled with dangers.  We will also read a nonfiction story Ants, by Rebecca Stefoff.  This photographic nonfiction book examines the physical characteristics, life cycle, and natural habitat of various types of ants.  Our focus will be:
  • recount/retell
  • compare/contrast
  • questioning

Math
The lessons will help prepare children for 3rd grade.
  • learn how to draw a picture and write a story to solve a multiplication problem
  • make division stories and write division sentences
  • relating multiplication and division
  • learn how to identify and name fractions
Science
Children had a great time designing their cars with a partner.  We watched as the cars raced against each other with wind energy.

Next week they will have the opportunity to build an electric circuit using:  a bulb, batteries and wires.

Lesson 2
  • draw conclusions about how light moves
  • recognize that light can pass through some objects and not others
  • understand ways energy and matter interact
