 I would like to thank everyone that was able to attend our Open House.  I especially enjoyed watching the children proudly share their projects with their families.  





I would also like to thank the families and the PTO for their book donations to our classroom.  We added 10 books to our collection.


MAP Testing - next week

Reading/Language Arts
We will be reading Owl Moon by Jane Yolen and Owls by Michael George.  Owl Moon tells the story of a little girl that goes owling with her father on a cold winter night.  The moon is bright and their footsteps crunch through the snow, their hope is to see an owl.  Owl, is a nonfiction story that explains the many features of owls and how they differ from other birds.
Vocabulary:  clearing, echo, meadow, owling, pumped, shadows, threading, active, blend, curved, outlines, swoops easily, backwards
Children will be sharing their habitat research projects with their classmates.

Math
We will begin Topic 4, Working with Equal Groups.  
  • repeated addition involves joining equal groups
  • arrays involve joining equal groups and is way to think about repeated addition
  • pictures and number sentences can be used to solve addition problems
Social Studies
There will be a review and test on Unit 5, Our Country Long Ago.

Science
We will begin Unit F, Energy in Motion, Chapter 1, Light and Heat.
  • vocabulary:  energy, heat, light, sound, solar energy, electricity
  • identify forms of energy
  • describe ways energy and motion interact
