Fire Safety
Everyone attended the Fire Safety Assembly on Thursday and learned many safety tips. The children learned the importance of having a meeting place outside of the home in case of a fire. Please let your child know where they should go.
Reading
I would like to thank the parents that were able to provide information about their child's name. This week the children were excited to share what they learned. They did a great job presenting their information and listening to their classmates.
Next week we will be working on close reading with Weird Friends, Unlikely Allies in the Animal Kingdom, by Jose Aruego and Arianne Dewey. We will be working on finding the main idea, key details, the author's purpose, unfamiliar words and making connections.
Writing
The children are doing a great job telling about places they have been. We will continue to work on capital letters at the beginning of sentences and for proper nouns and end punctuation marks.
Math
We have been working on subtraction strategies. Next week we will find differences by using related addition facts to 18 and by making ten. There will be a review of Topic 3, Subtraction Strategies. We will begin Top 4, Working with Equal Groups.
Science
The children have enjoyed sharing their favorite fruits. We have had some discussion about which food group the watermelon belongs in. Check out this website: http://www.watermelon.org/Fruit-or-Vegetable.aspx for more information.
Next week we will be learning about the grain group. The grain group has foods that give the body energy. Ask your child to identify the foods on their plate that belong to this group.
