Reading
This week we watched a video about a cheetah and a puppy. We compared the video to the our close reading material from Weird Friends. The children enjoyed and video and wanted the link:

Next week will be working on vocabulary from Owen and Mzee. Vocabulary words include: commotion, rescue, intruder, enclosure, anxious, scrambled, inseparable, hoisted, sanctuary, pod, fend and ecologist. We will identify the author's purpose and important details.
Writing
This week the children made a list of nouns and adjectives describing their Halloween costumes. Next week we will be doing descriptive writing. Children will use their list to create a riddle describing their costumes. The class will have the opportunity to guess what they will be.
Math
The children received a letter with their code for X-tra Math. Please encourage them to practice at home. It is important that they build fluency for their addition and subtraction facts in second grade.
Next week in math we will be working on identifying numbers before, after, 10 more and 10 less than a given number. We will be using data from a chart to solve problems. There will be a test on Topic 5, Place Value to 100.
