Reading/Writing Workshop
This week the students will be working on persuasive writing.  They will be using logic, language, and evidence to influence the reader.  We will be using the 5 steps in the writing process:  Prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading and publishing  We will be looking for spelling errors, complete sentences, capitalization, punctuation and a topic sentence with related ideas.

Math
Students will continue to practice 2-digit subtraction with and without regrouping.  They will check the differences by using the inverse operation of addition.

Science
We will begin Chapter 3, Plants.  We will identify the main parts of plants:  roots, stems, leaves, flowers and their structural characteristics.  Students will observe how stems carry water.  

Social Studies
Mr. Durling, from Junior Achievement will be completing the unit on Our Community.  Students will learn about the economic role of government in a community by identifying services that government provides for citizens.  They will identify circumstances of money being exchanged for goods or services and recognize how it flows through a community's economy.
