Happy Veterans Day

Student of the Week
Ethan

Congratulations - Everyone has received a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut for completing their reading logs for the month of October.

Reading
We will be reading Chester's Way, by Kevin Heneks.  Chester and Wilson are best friends and they share the same way of doing things, until Lilly moves into the neighborhood.  Students will use inference to understand the characters.  They will informally explore text structure in narrative texts, including character and plot.
Vocabulary - prepare, embarrass, grip, huddle

Writing
We will be reading Harry and the Terrible Whatzit, by Dick Gackenbach and discussing ways the author makes the story scary.  Students will then write their own scary stories.

Math
Students will be practicing 2-digit addition with and without regrouping.  They will use mental math to add 2-digit numbers by breaking numbers apart into tens and ones.

Science
There will be a review and a test on Chapter 1, Living and Nonliving Things.  We will begin Chapter 2, Animals.  We will learn about the characteristics of some of the vertebrate groups and how the structural characteristics of animals are used to group them.

Social Studies
We will be identifying landforms: mountain, plain, valley, peninsula and bodies of water:  river, lake, and ocean.

Reading - read for 20 minutes and reading log
