Reading
We will be reading A Tree Is Nice written by Janice May Udry.  It is a book about many ways to enjoy trees.  We will also read My Baby Brother from a collection of poems written by Mary Ann Hoberman.  The strategy we will focus on is visualization.  Students will  informally use schema and inference as they visualize.   Readers will create unique mental images from texts based on their own background knowledge and experiences.
Vocabulary Words:  dreadful, terrific, grumble, scrunch

Writing
Students will hear and discuss good writing.  They will write about something that has happened to them and begin to explore descriptive language.  We will focus on capitalizing the first letter of sentences and using ending sentence punctuation.

Math
We will be comparing 2-digit numbers using <, >, and =.  Students will order 2-digit numbers and round numbers to the nearest 10.

Science
We will learn about the "others" food group.  Foods from this food group do not help our bodies stay healthy and grow the way the Five Food Groups foods do.
