Student of the Week
Elizabeth







Reading
We will be reading Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst.  Students will make text-to-self connections, refer to the story to support their thinking and informally identify important ideas in the story.   Vocabulary Word:  car pool

Writing
We will learn about a professional author, Donald Crews and how he gets his ideas for stories. Students will follow Donald Crews idea for sketching things he sees.  We will walk around the school and make a few quick sketches.  They will then select a sketch and write a story.

Math
Students will be able to write and model numbers in different ways. They will solve problems by using the skill make reasonable estimates.

Science
Queen Anna Banana teaches Little D that the vitamin C in fruits helps our bodies heal cuts and bruises.  Prince Waffle teaches us that foods from the grain group have carbohydrates which give us energy.

Social Studies
We will be comparing rural, urban and suburban communities.  We will learn about the contributions Henrietta King made to her community.  She donated land to build a railroad and helped to build churches and schools.

Homework
Reading - read for 20 minutes each day and complete the Reading Log
Math - practice facts and one side of a worksheet
Spelling - practice words
