Conferences - I would like to thank the parents that have scheduled a time for the Parent/Teacher Fall Conference the week of November 4th.  If you have not scheduled a conference you can go to: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090444A8A92BA20-2013 to sign up for a time slot.  If you are unable to make the times available, please let me know, so we can schedule another time.

We would like to thank the PTO  for a great class pizza party and a thank you to Mrs. Batryn for serving the pizza.  The students did a great job making the pizza disappear.

Reading
We will be reading The Paperboy, by Dav Pilkey.  This story is about how a paperboy and his dog enjoy the quiet of the early morning as they deliver their newspapers.  Students will continue to work on visualization to make sense of a text.  They will draw their mental images and connect their mental images to the text.  
Vocabulary Words:  advice, predicament, remedy, and solution

Writing
We will be reading Miss Tizzy, by Libba Moore Gray, a story about friendship.  Students will list their friends to get writing ideas.  We will begin exploring sentence punctuation, use of descriptive language and approximate spelling of unfamiliar words.

Math
There will be a test on Chapter 4, Number Concepts and Patterns.  We will begin Chapter 5, Explore 2-Digit Addition and Subtraction.  Students will be adding 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping.

Science
We will begin our science unit, A World of Living Things.  Student will identify and describe characteristics that distinguish living and nonliving things.  Vocabulary Words:  living, oxygen, and nonliving

Social Studies
Students will continue to work on their Illinois State Symbols booklet.

Homework
Reading - Read for 20 minutes and fill out Reading Log
Math - Practice Facts and 1-side of a worksheet
