Reading/Language Arts
We will be reading The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Namus Pinkwater. A seagull dropped a can of orange paint on Mr. Plumbean's house. His house with the splot stood out from all the other houses that looked the same. The neighbors wanted Mr. Plumbean to paint his house and he decided to paint his house to reflect his dreams. This book teaches you to embrace your individuality.
Vocabulary Words: hawser, splot, mush, belfry
Focus: how characters respond to major events and challenges, structure: beginning, middle, end, and point of view/perspective.
This week the children began writing a personal narrative, beginning with a hook and introduction along with using connecting words: first, next, then and last. We will continue with a conclusion, editing and writing a final copy.

The children had the opportunity to take the chapter test on their iPads. Our next chapter will be Length in Customary Units. Children will be using concrete models to measure the lengths of objects, estimate lengths of objects, and measure objects to the nearest inch using a ruler.
