Have a Happy a Healthy New Year!

Thank you to the parents that provided goodies and paper goods for our holiday party.  We also want to thank our party helpers, Mrs. Rivera, Mrs. Potter, Mrs. Portell and Mrs. Ciocan.  Everyone had an awesome time.  

Reading over winter break - Children that wish to participate in the class reading reward for December need to complete 21 days on their Reading Log for the month.

Reminder
The Six Flags Read to Succeed Reading Log is due February 21st.  Students that complete 6 hours of additional reading and complete the reading log with a parent's signature will receive a ticket for Great America.

Reading/Language Arts
We will be reading the articles:  Little Free Libraries Bring People Together and Sharing books, ideas and excitement at Little Free Libraries by the Chicago Tribune, adapted by Newsela staff.  The articles will show that small acts can bring a community together. 
The focus will be asking and answering questions to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
Vocabulary:  contain, encourage, stunning, variety, public
Grammar:  possessives

Math
Children will draw pictures to represent 3-digit addition.  They will apply place value concepts when using a break apart strategy for 3-digit addition.  We will be adding with and without regrouping.

Science
We will be learning about the characteristics of reptiles, amphibians and fish.  The similarities and differences will be discussed between the life cycle of a cat and frog.
