Robert
Reading/Language Arts
This week we have been learning about the differences between facts and opinions. Next week we will be exploring poetry. We will begin with the book Run Away Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis. We will also include the poems: How to Treat Your Friends,The Wind, by Robert Lewis Stevenson and Afternoon on a Hill, by Vincent Millay.
Vocabulary Words are: rhyme, rhythm, regular beats, repetition, figurative language and alliteration.
Math
We will be solving problems involving equal groups by using arrays. Children will write equations using repeated addition to find total number of objects in arrays. They will also use the strategy break apart, They will break apart a 1-digit addend to make a 2-digit addend a multiple of ten.
Social Studies
We will be learning about diversity in communities. We will be looking at several communities in New York: Little Italy, Chinatown, Fifth Avenue, and Central Park. Children will be using symbols, finding locations, and determining directions on maps.
