Curriculum Night
I look forward to seeing everyone again for 2nd Grade Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 6th from 6:30 pm -7:30 p.m..
Thank you
I would like to thank the children and their families for the first full week of school. Everyone did a awesome job returning their homework to school.
Reading Log
The children are asked to keep their Reading Logs in the Return to School Pocket of their Take Home Folder.
Children that read for 21 days in a month will earn a special reward that will be selected and voted on by the class.
Week of Assessments
We finished our MAPS tests this week for reading and math and the children did a wonderful job.
They also completed a math facts assessment for second grade.
Next week's assessments will be AIMSweb: M-Comp (math computations) & M-Cap (math concepts and applications). We will begin our ELA assessments using Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment, AIMsWeb and Common Assessments for second grade students.
Language Arts
Children are doing a great job as we begin our Daily Five reading program. They have been staying focused while reading to self and reading to someone. We are using the Scholastic Reading Counts Program and children earn points by reading books and taking quizzes.
We had an important visitor, our Principal Mr. Lazar. He read the book, "What Do You Do With an Idea?" by Kobi Yamada to the children. Everyone had an opportunity to write about their great ideas and share their ideas with their classmates.
Math
We have been learning about the value of digits and how to describe a 2-digit number as tens and ones. Next we will be writing 2-digit numbers in different ways and learning how finding a pattern helps you find all the ways to show a number with tens and ones.
Daily Homework
Reading - read for 20 minutes and complete Reading Log
Math - practice facts
