Reminders - January Reading Logs are due February 2nd.  The class voted and the reading reward will be eating lunch in the classroom.  Children that have completed their logs  will eat lunch in the classroom on Tuesday, February 2nd.
Children will also receive a certificate from Pizza Hut.

Six Flags Read to Succeed - reading log is due Tuesday, February 23rd.  Children that turn in completed logs will receive one free admission ticket at one Participating Six flags Theme park on select dates during the 2016 season.

Valentine Boxes - Thank you to the parents that have sent in shoeboxes.  We would appreciate any extra boxes.  We would like each child to have the opportunity to decorate a box for Valentine's Day.  Please send in boxes by Monday, February 1st.

Donations: We would appreciate any leftover stickers, ribbon, yarn, etc. that you may have that the children would be able to use to decorate their mailboxes.

Reading/Language Arts
We will continue reading My Librarian Is a Camel, How Books Are Brought to Children Around the World, by Margriet Ruurs.  Children will be working with partners to gather background information about different countries and the types of libraries available to the people that live in remote areas.  
They will use the information to create a slide show that they will be sharing with their classmates.

Math
Next week we will continue with money.  Our focus will be:  adding and subtracting, solving problems by using the strategy predict and test and counting on from an amount to determine the change.

Science
Children will observe how water and sand can change the shape of rocks.  We will learn how Earth's surface is made up of different solid materials.
Vocabulary Words:  boulder, mineral, soil


Homework
Reading - read 20 minutes and complete reading log
Math - practice facts
Spelling - new words will go home on Wednesday
