Thank you - I would like to thank the parents that were able to come to our Curriculum Night.  I enjoyed the opportunity to share some of the things that we will be working on during the the year.  If you were unable to attend, a packet with information was sent home with your child.  Please let me know, if you have any questions.

Reading/Language Arts
Our first unit is Friendship.  Children will be describing characters and how they respond to events. They will recall information from experiences and use resources to answer questions.  They will decide what character traits make someone a good friend.  We will be reading Chester's Way by Kevin Henkes.
We've had a busy week with MAPS and will work on nouns next week.

Spelling
We will continue learning and practicing the different spelling activities.  Children will receive spelling words for their groups on Wednesday.  Spelling tests will usually be given the following week on Friday.

Math
Today we played the game Count and Compare Fives.  It was the teacher against the class and the children were very excited that they won. Your child has a copy of this game in his/her Take Home Folder.  I hope you have an opportunity to play with them.
Next week we will practice adding sums to 20 by using mental strategies.  Children will use doubles, halves and doubles plus and minus one.

Science
I heard the children talking with their friends during snack-time. They were identifying their snack by food groups.  How Exciting!  to hear them discussing their science lesson.

"Little D" is quickly learning how to become a healthy dragon.  Next week we will learn that the vegetable group is a good source of vitamin A and helps us see in the dark.  The fruit group is a good source of vitamin C and potassium and helps our body to heal from cuts and bruises.
