Reminders 
Great America Reading Logs - are due February 23rd.
Book Collection - Elizabeth Ide Book Drive will continue through February 27th.
Valentine's Day Class Party - will be on Thursday, children that would like to pass out cards should bring them to school by Thursday morning.  We have 18 children in our classroom.

*We are looking for donations to decorate our boxes.

We will read That Book Woman by Heather Henson.  It's a story that honors a special part of American History - the Pack Horse Librarians, who helped untold numbers of children see the stories amid the chicken scratch, and made them into lifetime readers.

Focus

  • how illustrations help us better understand character, setting and plot
  • identify - characters, setting and plot
  • beginning - middle - end
  • vocabulary:  plowing, dusky, scholar, britches, passel, yearn
  • essential question: How can one person's act of kindness make a difference in a community?
Math
  • estimate to select 2 numbers that have a given difference
  • given a quantity and one of its parts, find the missing part by counting on or counting back
  • use models to subtract 3-digit numbers with regrouping
Social Studies
Our Earth's Resources - we will learn how
  • people depend on the physical environment and its resources to meet their needs
  • we can conserve and replenish natural resources
