End-of-Year Picnic

The PTO is looking for a volunteer to be the chairperson for the end-of-year school picnic. The students have always looked forward to this day of fun activities, what a fantastic way to end the year.  Please consider volunteering.





An Invitation to our Open House
We would like to invite everyone to our Open House on Thursday, April 25th, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  The children have done a great job transforming our classroom into a rainforest.  They look forward to sharing their projects with their families and friends. 





Reading 
We will be reading two stories this week, A Curve in the River and Slippery Siblings. A Curve in the River is a realistic fiction story about a boy named Julian.  Julian is disappointed when Gloria finds the message he was trying to send around the world in a bottle.  Julian's father later explains the he needs to place the bottle beyond the curve in the river.  Slippery Siblings is nonfiction story about a brother and sister.  Blaise Bryant and his sister, Joy are champion bobsled racers, even though Blaise was born blind. 

Target Skills:
Phonics: -er ending in two syllable words, base words and -ed, -ing endings
Comprehension: monitor/clarify
Vocabulary:  advice, message, curve, travel, instructions, bobsled, catchers, course, run, straightaways

Math
Students will solve problems by using the strategy, make a model.  There will be a review and a test on Chapter 20, Place Value to 1,000.  We will begin Chapter 21, Compare and Order Greater Numbers.

Science
We will continue with our animal reports.  Students will be using the Internet to find an illustration to add to their reports.  We will also continue with our observations of the chrysalises in our butterfly habitat.

Social Studies
Students will obtain information from a history map of the early English settlements in North America.
