Student of the Week

Book Orders - Book orders went home last week. You can order books online at: www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. The class activation code is: GTFFX. Orders are due Monday, December 5.
Reading Log -I understand that children enjoy reading books that they have read last year and may enjoy reading books below their reading level and that is great and I encourage reading for fun. The Reading Log is a homework assignment and your child should read a book at their reading level. Please have your child use the five finger rule for choosing a book that is appropriate for their Reading Log.
Reading
Theme: Around Town: Neighborhood and Community.
Genre: Realistic Fiction
The story for this week is Chinatown. A boy and his grandmother spend the day enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of Chinatown.
Target Skills
Phonics: consonant digraphs; base words and endings -er, and est.
Comprehension: making judgments; summarize
High Frequency Words: during, heard, lion, winter
Vocabulary Words: apartment, celebrations, delivery, handcarts, market
Math
We will review Chapter 8, 2-Digit Subtraction for a chapter test. We will begin Chapter 9, Data and Graphs. Students will use a table and bar graph for information.
Science
Students will sort and classify animals into fish, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds and no bones. They will learn that structural characteristics of animals are used to group them.
Social Studies
Students will identify some people who provide services to our community, as well as, some governmental services available to the community.
Homework
Reading - read 20 minutes and complete reading log
Math - practice facts & one side of a worksheet, 2 sides of a workbook page
*Please check your child's homework and have him/her correct mistakes.
