Reading

Theme: Silly Stories
Genre: Fantasy
The story for this week is Julius. Julius, a pig from Alaska, teaches Maya and her family important lessons about fun and sharing.
Target Skills
Phonics: short vowels: o,u,e
Comprehension: Fantasy and Realism
High Frequency Words: brought, reason, special, surprise
Reading Strategies: Monitor/clarify, compare/contrast, making inferences
Vocabulary Words: crumbs, slurped, imitation, noise

Math - There will be a test on Chapter 2, Subtraction Facts and Strategies. We will begin Chapter 3, Place Values to 100. Students will use value to describe the value of digits in numbers.

Science
We will identify foods from the meat group which provides protein. Protein and physical activity help to build strong muscles.


Social Studies -
Students will recognize diversity in communities. We will read about different communities such as Chinatown and Little Italy.
